I like Apple but...

Is there any reason that each and every time I install an upgrade something goes batfuggy! I installed some upgrades and now iTunes and iPhoto are just crapping out every time I try launching them - Quicktime seems f**ked too. Funny as it may sound, I do not want to upgrade hardware unless it is absolutely necessary and I am getting really tired with updates that cause more problems than they seem to fix!
